What is the best way to organize my music files?

Author: admin  |  Category: how to organize

I’m not necessarily looking for a program to organize my files for me. I just need to know what things (like genre, year, album) i should at to the file information.

If you know any programs that do organize your music or any programs that you can use to make smart play lists, please include them!

As kwazyliloboy says, a very easy way is to use iTunes

choose iTunes music folder to be the same as the folder where you hold all your songs, and check the option (keep iTunes Music Folder organized).

This way, iTunes will automatically organize all your songs into their albums. (and create album folders for loose songs)

Then, in the iTunes library, each album will automatically be labelled into a specific (not always correct) music category. Also you can filter the iTunes library view to lots of different criteria, such as alphabetically ordered music name, genre, albums and artists; song bitrate and duration and more, all this whithout having to change your music files. You can also automatically download album artwork for the albums where it’s missing (you have to get an itunes store account to do this though).

well iTunes is good.. you can add all your songs on it and then right click the song and change the ID3 tag on it.. that way it changes the song itself not the file name.. for the file name, do it manually.. i have it as Artist – Title or if its a cd Artist – track – Title. if your doing it using the track number as well name it like 01 02… 10 11 12 because if you just do 1.. the next one is 11 then 12 then 2 and so on..
